What do I do if I have a water damage claim?

  1. Report all water damage claims to your Hastings Mutual agent.
  2. Locate the source of the water problem. If the water damage is a result of plumbing problems, turn off the water source and contact your plumber to make the needed repairs. If the water damage is the result of a roof leak, have temporary repairs made to avoid continued problems. Some causes of water damage may not be covered by the insurance policy. The Hastings Mutual Claims Representative can make that determination for you.
  3. Contact a local, competent “water extraction” contractor to begin the extraction and drying process. The water must be removed to protect your property and expedite repairs. This is recommended whether or not there is insurance coverage.
  4. If you participate in the physical cleanup process, keep a record of your hours of labor and cost of materials for presentation to the Claims Representative.
  5. The Claims Representative should contact you within 24 hours after the claim is reported to Hastings Mutual Insurance.

Important Windshield Repair Information

Now, instead of replacing your entire windshield when it has a small break, most breaks can be repaired to a safe level. Repairing a windshield rather than replacing it makes sense, because a new windshield may cost more than $300. For Hastings Mutual policyholders, we will waive your insurance deductible if we repair your windshield rather than replace it.

I am a Hastings Mutual policyholder. What do I have to do?

  1. Your Hastings Mutual agent or glass vendor can help you determine if a repair of the windshield is possible, and help you get the repair work done.
  2. Hastings Mutual also provides a toll free number (800-255-7137) to the Glass Claims Call Center for you to use to report a windshield loss. If you call this number to report your loss, you will need to know your Hastings Mutual policy number (3 alpha characters and then 7 digits).
  3. When you call the Glass Claims Call Center (800-255-7137), customer service representatives can help you select a glass vendor and begin the process of windshield repair or replacement.

How do I benefit from this program?

  1. By helping to reduce insurance costs, you will be helping to keep insurance premiums as low as possible. You will also avoid having to pay your deductible amount when we repair, rather than replace, your windshield. If the repairs do not work, your glass shop will typically credit the repair.
