One of the symbols of Christmas recognizable to everyone, even those who don’t celebrate the holiday, is the poinsettia. (It’s pronounced “poyn-set-ee-uh”; I know, I always mispronounce it too.) Big, bright red blooms that last right through the season are pretty hard to forget.
If you’re a florist, Christmas isn’t where you focus your attention, though. It’s in early May: Mother’s Day makes up more than 20 percent of all flower purchases throughout the entire year. Valentine’s Day is in second place.
Christmas, Mother’s Day, and Valentine’s Day are included in the special coverage offer we have in our Florists’ Endorsement. Personal property off premises coverage applies to all your materials when you’re not inside your store or on your property (for example, if you’re delivering a bouquet or setting up at a convention). It’s a fairly standard coverage for many kinds of business, and the limit of coverage is $10,000, meaning we’ll pay up to $10,000 if we accept a claim that your property was damaged while it was somewhere else.
It’s unique to florists, though, that we boost the coverage to $15,000 during our special coverage periods, which are the times around 11 holidays (Valentine’s Day through Christmas — no increase for January!). Those are the times when
the industry is most busy and is likely seeing the most activity both in front of and behind the counter.
Coverage for money and security off the premises (you brought money with you when you set up your booth at the expo, didn’t you?) is also increased to $5,000 during the special coverage periods for florists.
We offer specific plants and flowers coverage for damage to plants burnt, frozen, or otherwise harmed when temperature systems stop working properly. We feature a number of other coverages for floral businesses, too, like liability if there’s negligence or error when dealing with customers or vendors.
If you’re a florist or work with someone in the industry, the Hastings Florists’ Endorsement is the right tool to make sure your business is protected. When your business is at its best — whether you’re selling nosegays, a bouquet of roses, or even a poinsettia — Hastings is at its best too, with extra coverage for those special times of year.
