Hastings Mutual went "paperless" in 2003 when it began scanning mail for Underwriting
to the OnBase® system. This allowed for several departments to be working on the
same electronic document simultaneously. A couple years later, Hastings Mutual purchased
two OPEX mail extraction and scanning workstations that automatically open mail,
extract the contents of envelopes, and facilitate scanning, all in one motion.
In 2003, Hastings Mutual began developing an online agency tool, Policy Express,
to allow agents to quote and issue Homeowners policies electronically. Since that
time we have continued to update this system and currently have over a dozen lines
of business available to our agents via Policy Express.
The Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation was established in 2004
as a non-profit organization to help financially challenged families in the communities
we serve. Through the foundation, Hastings Mutual participates in Adopt a Family,
United Way, Relay for Life, Adopt a Highway, and many other charitable events. William H. Wallace
is the president and chairman of the foundation.
Most recently, in 2010, Hastings Mutual expanded into its sixth state and began
writing business in Iowa.
After 125 years as a company, Hastings Mutual now writes business in Michigan, Ohio,
Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa. The company currently has approximately
435 employees and works with over 725 agencies.
