“The best doctor in the world is the veterinarian. He can’t ask his patients what is the matter — he’s got to just know.”— Will Rogers
An old observation, but that doesn’t make it incorrect! A veterinary business is probably one that will always have customers; there are always dogs and cats that need care (and rabbits, and horses, and birds, and…). Hastings Mutual can help with Veterinarians coverage. Here’s a look at what it includes.
Some of the features of our Veterinarians coverage are available in some of our other business-related insurance as well, like Business Personal Property Off Premises and In Transit (which covers materials related to your work if they’re not in your office, clinic, or other facility) and Damage to Premises Rented to You (which is what it sounds like — coverage for a building you’re renting instead of one you own).
Other coverages are more specific to the kind of damage or loss an animal care facility might experience.
This optional coverage applies to animals who are hurt or killed for any of 21 different causes of loss, from fire to attack by another animal in your care. Specifically, it is for domestic animals on the insured’s premises (like an animal hospital) or when the animal is being medically treated, groomed, boarded for a few hours or days, or for purposes of breeding.
We will also help pay for rewards and advertising for stolen (but not lost) animals, loss of business income if animals are hurt or killed, and spoiled material including sperm.
This is also an optional coverage, and like other liability coveragesit’s for those situations where the insured person is responsible for an injury. For veterinarians, it’s an injury caused while providing veterinary care — not just medical care, but vaccinations, parasite control, dental health, and more (those are some of the services my vet offers my cat, for example).
One thing to note: this coverage is for veterinarians, their staff, and their offices. It’s completely different from pet insurance, coverage for owners of dogs, cats, and other household animals (or farm animals). We have some pet coverage in our Personal Auto policy, and you can talk with your local independent insurance agent about other coverages that might be right for your family, your business, your farm, and your animals.
