Nonprofit of the Month: Flint Children’s Museum

The Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation recognizes the contributions of nonprofit organizations in the communities we serve. Each month, we’ll honor one of those organizations as our Nonprofit of the Month.
Founded in 1979, the Flint Children’s Museum has helped thousands of early childhood learners discover science, community, and fitness. It’s one of only five Nature Explore-certified outdoor classrooms in Michigan. Nature Explore is offered by Dimensions Educational Research Foundation, a nonprofit that encourages connecting children with nature.
The union between the natural world and kids is a driving force for the Flint Children’s Museum. Sproutside is an outdoor area where young scientists can learn about animals and plants. Indoors, the museum highlights topics like How Things Work, Health & Fitness, and Our Town, a place for kids to go “grocery shopping” with plastic food, and learn numbers at the Fractions Pizza Parlor.
