Nonprofit of the Month: Drake Goetz Memorial Park
Jun 24, 2020, 1:13 PM
Remembering a young man with a place for all children.
The Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation recognizes the contributions of nonprofit organizations in the communities we serve. Each Month, we’ll honor one of those organizations as our Nonprofit of the Month. It’s been a long time in preparation, but they’re finally getting started. Family and friends of the late Drake Goetz are building a play area in his memory in Union Township, Indiana, in the northwest corner of the state. Drake died in 2017 in an off-road vehicle accident. His family and friends have been planning the park since then, publicizing and developing it gradually over the past four years.
It’s the county’s only “all-inclusive” playground, with play equipment, tables, and other materials available for children with special needs.
A soccer field and basketball court are already on the site. In late May, the foundation of the pavilion was put in place, to go along with the roof installed earlier last month. This week, volunteers are meeting to build a jungle gym complete with slides and places to climb.
Drake Goetz Memorial Park is supported by Hastings Mutual and
Harrell & Kline of Indiana.
