The Hastings Mutual Insurance Company Charitable Foundation recognizes the contributions of nonprofit organizations in the communities we serve. Each month, we’ll honor one of those organizations as our Nonprofit of the Month.
There are many organizations throughout the six states served by Hastings Mutual that help families in need of food. They often collect canned and boxed nonperishable foods to donate to food banks. But not all of them create art while doing it.
The Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville, Indiana, has hosted CanStruction for nearly a decade. It’s raised more than $50,000 for food pantries in Hamilton County, just north of Indianapolis. It’s also collected some 40,000 cans during that time — cans that are used to create sculptures.
Noblesville’s historic courthouse, towers, cityscapes… they have all been created by volunteer teams in the form of stacked cans. It’s a little bit of competition, too, with each group creating a structure and leaving it on display for a week. After that, the cans are separated and given to those in need in an event called (what else) “DeCanStruction.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville is supported by Hastings Mutual and ONI Risk Partners.
